The Hraunfossar waterfalls comprise lots of clear water springs that emerge from under the edge of lava field Hallmundarhraun and they flow straight down in parallel lines into the river Hvìtà. 

The lava field gets its name from the Grattis Saga and the settler Hallmundur.
