Club Med in the back yard
This is our back yard about 8am when it was still quite dark and the water was finally dropping away from the back door. It came within millimeters of coming in. It flowed in at the back from the high school grounds finding the lowest spot along the fence line at our place.
It happens periodically when we have torrential rain in a short period and the tide is in. Motueka is built on swamp and underground streams which is handy for getting water in your well at shallow depths but not when we have over 180mm rain in 18 hours.
It was torrential all night. It didn't worry me until I got up at 5am and saw we were surrounded. Fortunately it stopped raining about then and there was no wind.
Others much worse off than us as it went through their houses and businesses.
By 10am the sun was out and it has been hot ever since.
An extra showing some reflections of the garden.
