A Mini Adventure (Includes Free Mug), London

Had a half day today so decided to have a mini adventure and go and see some exhibitions. There were two at the Media Space at the Science Museum in South Kensington. The first was Gathered Leaves by Alec Soth - his photography is superb and the images were beautifully printed. It was fascinating to read about how he approached his projects and his thinking behind them. The second was about Julia Margaret Cameron which I also loved.
After that it was a walk back to Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park to the Serpentine Gallery to see the revelatory paintings of Hilma Af Klint - a Swedish painter whose abstract paintings pre-date Kandinsky, Mondrian and Malevich. Her canvases looked so fresh and modern so it was even more astonishing to discover that much of her work was not seen in public until 1986, even though she painted them in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Finally, I needed to have a sit down so decided to have a cup of coffee at the Magazine restaurant which is attached to the Sackler gallery. It is the building designed by Zaha Hadid - a very interesting place to have a hot beverage!
