Eastern Towhee
I was excited to capture a picture of this bird, not because it is rare but because I haven't seen or heard one in a long time, even though I know where it often hangs out in Chagrin River Park. The towhee who gets his name from an imitation of the bird's call note, was named by Mark Catesby, a naturalist and bird artist who encountered it in the Carolinas in 1731. I think the name for a group of these birds is pretty funny. They are know as a tangle or a teapot of towhees. Credit for spotting this towhee so I could take his picture goes to my friend Kathy Komarmy. Thanks, Kathy.
