Aguadulce

Out and About in Almeria No. 4

As different again today, mixed sun and cloud but generlly very warm.

We set off this morning along the coast towards Almeria City, to Aguadulce, which is part of the Municipality of Roquetas de Mar.

It's beaches are some 2.5 km long and what was a fishing village in 1950 with 27 houses and 300 inhabitants has become a thriving tourist resort, offering hotels, apartments, water sports and night life and a small but busy Marina.

The name Aguadulce (sweetwater) is derived from the many water springs of crystal water which filter from the many rocky hills that tower over the beach.   It is said to be clear and sweet.   Apparently the sweet water rises and bubbles in the sea as well!

The main picture shows the beach looking towards the Marina, the men getting the sunbeds ready for the Easter holiday.   Extras include a group of youngsters going out of the Marina for lessons;  the view round the Coast towards Almeria;  and the clear waters.
