Tree bumblebee
I heard that brimstone butterflies are on the wing in Lewes a few miles south of here so I crawled out of my sickbed to walk my butterfly transect just in case. I didn't see any butterflies but I did find lots of bumblebees including Bombus hypnorum, the tree bumblebee, which first started to appear in the UK in 2001. If you look closely you will see that the bee is infected with mites between its head and thorax.
