Segovia

These days we're forever hearing about 'awesome' this and 'awesome' that. Today I saw something that actually deserved the label.

The Roman aqueduct at Segovia, in central Spain, is simply breathtaking and fully deserving of its World Heritage Site status.

It was built in the first century AD and actually supplied water until the middle of the 19th century. Just think of that for a moment - it did its job for over 1,700 years. Incredible! And it is in remarkably good condition today.

Segovia is a beautiful place with a fine cathedral, a large castle and impressive city walls. It's well worth a visit.
