Botanising in Heckington

The first botanical field-trip of the year for the South Lincolnshire Flora Group was to the fen-edge village of Heckington, famous for its eight-sailed windmill, possibly the only one in the world. The north-easterly wind and grey skies meant that it was quite a chilly meeting, but fortunately there was an excellent tea-room at the windmill, which we visited for both lunch and afternoon tea - very civilised!

Despite the cool conditions we recorded a lot of species, and also managed to visit the church and peek at the derelict shell of the Ferdowse clinic (see extra), a locality that's been used for urbex photography. Needless to say I only photographed it through the security gates, even though I would loved to have gone in and explored!
