Photo Call
Elbows on the gate to steady my hold,
one eye to the viewfinder, the other closed,
I'm zooming in on sheep across the field.
After sixty seconds I lift my head: "Hello!"
I never heard them arrive:
a ewe and her twins are looking up,
searching my face, as if to say,
"No need to zoom - we're here, close by - snap us!"
I do.
And now, in the shake of two lambs' tails,
they nuzzle for milk while the ewe seems to smile.
In a shiver of tails they guzzle and go.
"Thank ewe - and your lambs. Thank ewe," I say.

(There's an Extra, too, of the same ewe with one of her twins.)
