Julia Souks up in Dubai

So this is Dubai. Just as we were told, it is full of excess and superlatives. The Malls are bigger, the fountains are more spectacular, the sky scrapers are higher, the roads are faster and certainly more dangerous, the coffees are more expensive and the alcohol is almost unaffordable. Only the temperature was less than we had anticipated and at 25º with a cool breeze it is one of the cooler places we have been in in the past month. Luckily we will not be here when the temperatures soar later in the year.
Julia was in fine form and we spent a relaxed day looking around one of the Souks and drinking coffees on a terrace overlooking the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah.
Our main meal of the day was "Brunch" - a Dubai Friday institution apparently. We met Laura in the afternoon and Julia headed us towards the worlds tallest building. She wasn't sure which floor the restaurant was on but she was sure we would have a good view. It turned out that Brunch was served on the terrace in front of the tower at ground level... In fairness it meant that we had a great view of the tower. The food and drink was excellent with an as much as you wish to eat policy. Sushi, seafood, sunshine and cocktails are a heady mix and we went home happy. Later we watched local rugby as boyfriend Josh's team won the final game in the their Championship and lifted the trophy. We left them to celebrate and took a taxi home to try and catch up on our jet lag.
Great to see Julia again and to meet some of her friends.
