Volunteering in Scotland
Day 2 of our event started off at 9am prompt this morning notwithstanding the late night/ early morning discussions! Leadership includes resilience!
Our first speaker was George Thomson the CEO of Volunteer Scotland (a previous panel member) spoke to us about trends in volunteering in Scotland and highlighting some of the benefits of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games experience.
A fascinating and entertaining account. Advice about the use of language. Celebrating volunteering activity whatever the duration. And despite the gradual overall decline in volunteering the active trend in 10-19 year olds.
The rest of our day continued at a pace with workshops on skills and tools that can be used then a session on how we moved forward. A variety of presentations: my "rap" seemed to go down well!
Home by 5pm then out to a amateur dramatic presentation of Oklahoma. We've been going for decades to support friends there.each year the production and quality improves. Some new younger blood has joined the experienced "old hands" and made for a great production. An enjoyable end to Saturday.
