Bombing In Taksim Square
I guess I didn't mention before that I'm doing this blog for a school project. My posts should be about #thingsiamgratefulfor because that was the title which I chose for my blog. I'm trying to post daily, but thinking what happened today in Istanbul, it would be really ignorant for me to post a photo with this hashtag.
Let me translate you the writings in the photo. "Breaking News: Bombing in Istiklal Street, 2 people were killed, 7 were injured". This snapshot is from 11.45 am the time the incident have just happened. As it said in the news now, 5 people are dead, one of them is the suicide bomber and 36 people are injured. It is also said that the bomber's purpose was to go to somewhere more crowded but it exploded sooner than he thought. Istiklal Street is in Taksim Square which is one of the most vivid places in Istanbul. It is also a touristic place and two casualties were from Israil I guess. Also some of the injured people are tourists.
This was expected in Istanbul. Thinking of the same incident that happened in Ankara last weekend and the fact that there will be Nevruz celebrations as crowded groups in Istanbul. There were Whatsapp messages going around. People were scared but I probably they didn't think that there could be a bombing per week. We had something to do in Nişantaşı and we had planned to go there in the morning, but we decided to sleep more. After we saw the explosion in the news, we decided to not to go. Because it's a school project, I don't want to talk about the terror organization or the politics. But I'm aware of that Istanbul and Ankara are seen like the new capitals of Middle East. People are afraid to go out. The dormitory of my school forbid the seven day residentials to go out of the school for a short time. Thinking of the foreigners that are injured or died, Istanbul and maybe even Turkey is done with tourism. Also because people won't go out as often as before, they won't buy and spend as often so trade will slow down. They are trying to lower our life quality, normalise the terror and make us numb against these but we shouldn't let this happen. Thinking of yesterday was the 101th anniversary of the Çanakkale Victory and what our ancestors have been through for establishing the Republic of Turkey we should look after this country as the new generation. I'm censuring terror with all my heart and conscience.
