Call for justice

On a cold, rainy Thursday evening a large group of women's rights and Indigenous rights activists gathered outside the Permanent Mission of Honduras to the UN to call for justice for Berta Caceres.

Berta was a human rights activist in Honduras who had received many threats and was killed two weeks ago because of her work. Another activist in her organisation was killed this week. Honduras is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a human rights defender. There were a number of speakers talking about Berta and her work, including one of her daughters.

And in other events today, I also faced my terror of public speaking and made a statement during a UN plenary meeting on difficulties associated with collecting data on violence against women.

(I'm posting this from JFK on Friday night. I'll have to post today's blip when I get home as it's time to get in the queue to get on the plane.)
