The Lundy Eye

Change is coming

Glasgow's architectural centrepiece is George Square - and the City Chambers building is the jewel in the crown.
The white structure in front of it is the war memorial.
There is a big discussion going on about giving the square a facelift in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Apparently everything is 'up for grabs' including all the statues dotted round the square.
There has long been an argument that the statues - which include two Tory Prime Ministers, Victoria and Albert, military heroes and poets - don't represent Glasgow's working-class, left-wing past. Maybe a couple of Red Clydesiders would redress the balance.
