What's in a name?

I passed by the end of this road during my walkabout at lunchtime and it got me wondering about the history of such a name.  Sadly, it appears quite simply attributed to a chap called John Martyr who bought Guildford House in the High Street, whereas Martyr Road is a couple of roads back from the cobbled High Street. 



Never mind, I still like the row of terraced houses and the cheery sunshine today, so I’m sticking with it.

I actually used to work in an office at the end of this road, where it joined Chertsey Street...some thirty-odd years ago.  Goodness, how time flies, eh?
