At the Burke
Went to the retirement celebration for Robin Wright's 30 year career at the Burke Museum, which includes director of the Bill Holm center for NW coast art. We are greeted at the entrance with this fine Dzunukwa, a Kwakwaka'wakw wild woman of the woods. (see HERE if you want a short explanation of this creature)
Robin an amazing scholar, teacher, mentor, was a Haida expert, the only person to gather the extensive genealogy of that tribe from Haida Gwaii ( the Queen Charlotte islands). We had several excellent courses at the UW from her and also the privilege of traveling on a sailboat to Haida villages in SW Alaska and Haida Gwaii, which we were shocked to see from the sketchbook I made was 10 years ago!!
