Vaguely lion-like

Problems with getting fotos from the SD card to the computer again.  This should have been a really nice sunset shot, but the card keeps saying it needs formatting - so finally I did.  Not very knowledgeable about this, but going to try using the cable, leaving the card in the camera and see if that works.   Tried lots of different cards and ports.   Any other ideas?   How do the rest of you get your fotos from your camera to your PC?

Update:    Thanks to all for your suggestions.  Think it has to do with formatting the card on the computer vs formatting in the camera.   Card I had given up on now seems to be working.   But I'm leary and a new SD card is to be gotten.   Thanks again!
