Extravagant Sky Entered

You were the one for skylights. I opposed
Cutting into the seasoned tongue-and-groove
Of pitch pine. I liked it low and closed,
Its claustrophobic, nest-up-in-the-roof
Effect. I liked the snuff-dry feeling,
The perfect, trunk-lid fit of the old ceiling.
Under there, it was all hutch and hatch.
The blue slates kept the heat like midnight thatch.

But when the slates came off, extravagant
Sky entered and held surprise wide open. ....

"The Skylight", by Seamus Heaney

Spent the day looking for extravagant skies, but it was grey and raining, and we spent most of it inside supermarkets, looking for bits and pieces, including a microwave, as we have guests coming on Thursday.

But then the rain stopped and we walked inside the city walls of Évora - these are three of the arches of the aqueduct, as it comes into the city. A most lovely white-haired man chatted to us about the square behind us, which he is obviously in love with, and we ended up having a drink and a petisco (like a tapa) in his simple little bar, before driving home through quite thick mists.
