'Ab ira leonis'
Arles, in Provence, is a UNESCO World Heritage site for its Roman and Romanesque Heritage.
On the main square (Place de la République'), there is an obelisk belonging to the former Roman circus with four bronze lions. Ab ira leonis ('Fear the lion's ire') was a gift made by Venice to the City of Arles to seal their mutual alliance when Provence was still a part of the Italian sphere.
The tower on the right belongs to the 17th c City Hall, topped with a statue known locally as the Man of Bronze.
