Diary of an Edinburgher

History lesson

We took a notion to go down to the Parliament to see the John Bellany exhibition of works inspired by Dr Elsie Inglis and the Scottish Women's Hospitals during the First World War. To my shame, I didn't know anything about these brave women who set up hospitals all over Europe. Mind you, this was after Elsie was told to 'Go home and sit still' by our own War Office when she offered to set up hospitals first in Britain. She then offered our allies, who gladly accepted. What an amazing story of women helping the war effort, but also furthering the cause of women's rights.

The idea of then walking home through the Park - with a dog friendly pub lunch at the end - was abandoned, because it looked as if it might rain. But in reality, I knew it was too far for me.

So Archie had a nice day out with lots of folk stopping to pat him, funnily enough - because he looked like a mud rat. We came across Julie, his walker, with much crying (Archie). I then popped in to get a couple of Danish pastries, the thought of which kept me going on the last lap home.

Archie had his hairy legs trimmmed while JR went to Mr Waitrose for some goodies, and he's now having a lovely shower.

I think a little glass of wine will help my throat/cough. Much nicer than the horrible cough mixture I had to glug a couple of times during the night.

The crocuses are in full bloom along the Meadows - we always love to see them, don't we, Archie. I hope you're not sitting on one...
