Grey day at the Palace

Big girl's day out at the second day of the Aviva London Diamond League. Thanks to TFL we arrived 45mins earlier than its journey planner's estimation! But that just meant there was no queue for the Sporthall, so Carys immediately did her first Sportshall of the day and despite falling in the speedbounce again she gained a step 6, one step more than at Birmingahm last month!

We then tried some Batak and hammer throwing and javelin throwing before heading into the stadium. Once in the weather was either really grey and threatening to rain or baking hot when the sun came out, at least to start with. When it did rain, boy did it rain, but we were mostly ok under our umberella.

Before the OCWK 800m race we spotted Dame Kelly Holmes a couple of rows in front of us and Carys went to get her autograph. Despite it being before her girls racing she was lovely to her and signed for her.

Halfway through the afternoon, Carys decided she could do better at the sportshall, so after a slight altercation with the security who didn't want to let us back in, we got out into the exhibition area. This time she didn't jump as far but she didn't fall over on the speed bounce and low and behold she gained a step7! (I am under no illusions that once she has to throw things that score will come down, but I am very impressed all the same.)

On the way back she asked for Dame Tanni Grey Thompson's autograph and from last years blip you can see she understands a bit about disability sport. So when I explained what Kelly and Tanni had achieved I think she was more impressed with Tanni!

Threw it down with rain on the way home, but thanks to our secret station we were home really quickly. Granny and Grandad had arrived, making C even more excited, but she was really good and went to bed really quickly looking forward to fun on Sunday.
