Saem Siam Reap Hotel

Another day, another country. Time to don the International Travellers clothes (as opposed to the International Rescue suits that Cathie and Margie had to wear previously) and to leave Vietnam behind. Our initial impression is that Cambodia seems calmer, less frenetic and more deferential than it's near neighbour and we have already seen more smiles per head of the population than we saw in Vietnam. Our guide described Cambodia as a dear caught between the bears of China and Vietnam and explained why he thought that his countries woes were partly caused by the interference of these two countries. Cambodia does seem to have had more than it's fair share of misfortune in it's recent past. We will see evidence of this in the next few days I have no doubt.
