Longtailed tit juggling with food

I had a few minutes between bouts of procrastination this morning and headed out to the cabin in the garden with my camera.  I had just spotted a woodpecker at the feeders looking a bit lost as the peanuts had all been eaten. Woodpeckers don't find it as easy to eat the sunflower seeds from the bottom of the feeders, preferring to peck directly at their head height.

So I put some suet pellets in the peanut holders and sat down in the cabin with the window open.  It has been raining all day so all the birds were very keen to get some easy food.  Earlier I had looked our=t of my study window and seen a charm of goldfinches and an assortment if bullfinches, black caps and varied tits all queueing up for the feeder near the back door.

I didn't have long to wait before a female blackbird  perched on the rhus tree and eyed up the food.  Sadly they can't perch to feed on sunflowers but I had added some suet to the tray although it found it difficult to work out how to approach it.  Whilst it was waiting I napped her profile which I've added as an 'Extra photo'.  Then a flock of longtailed tits swarmed around the rhus and had no hesitation in pecking at the sunflower seeds.  I like the way they hang from one claw and use the other claw as a holder for the food for them to peck at. This picture resulted. They are some of my very favourite birds for their vivacity and  charming songs when gathered together.
