Major Oak
In complete contrast to Saturday night we orienteered in Sherwood Forest today. It was lovely open forest with only a few patches of vegetation to hinder progress and it was dry underfoot so much so that my shoes were cleaner and drier at the finish. It was a bit like a park run, so I was well beaten but I did enjoy it. Afterwards we walked to see the Major Oak, a tourist attraction for more than a century. It is behind a fence to stop the soil being compacted by the weight of the half a million visitors each year. To get a shot of just the tree I had to do a panorama of 4 wide angle shots.
