Forward Planning

It's a long time since I visited Austria.  

I visited a couple times as a youngster (with parents in tow) and once on an inter-rail/climbing holiday in 1981, but not since.  

The guidebook options on our shelves are SusannaHelen's extensive collection of Chalet School books and my very out-of-date Sierra Club guide to the Austrian Alps (which still makes reference to hob-nailed boots - but does at least concede that they are going out of fashion).  

I think some newer (and less fictional) guide books might be in order.
