Windermere
Wednesday
Another great day. We did a wonderful walk starting from Ambleside. The path climbed first up through Stock Ghyll woods, and past Stock Ghyll Force, before heading across fields towards Wansfell, with improving views, first over the town of Ambleside, then over Windermere, and beyond, towards the Langdales and Fairfield. This view was taken from the top, along the full length of Windermere, and with the good visibility, to Morecombe Bay beyond. From there the path descends the other side, leading into a walled lane, Nanny Lane, which leads all the way down to the village of Troutbeck, where we enjoyed a wonderful Ploughmans lunch and a drink sitting outside on the pub's lawn, taking in the surrounding scenery. The route then continued through the village, past several picturesque cottages, before branching off on another track skirting the hillside, affording more views over the lake, before entering Skelghyll Woods, and finally descending back into Ambleside. By this point we had lost the sun, it had become somewhat overcast, but at least it was still dry. We then drove into Bowness for a stroll by the lake and find somewhere for a cup of tea. In the evening we had dinner out at a pub in Hawkshead.
