Mt Baker Theater chandelier

Spent a relaxed morning before taking off for a special concert by the Whatcom Symphony Orchestra, part of a multi year series called "Harmony from Discord." Many of the featured pieces will be by Jewish composers who suffered during the Holicost. Today's piece was a trio for flute, piano and viola with string orchestra by Laszlo Weiner. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/L%C3%A1szl%C3%B3_Weiner He was a Hungarian composer who died in the Lukov Camp. He was only 28. The piece was full of Hungarian melodies and a pleasure to hear.

The concert began with an elegy and a brief interview with Noemi Ban, a Holicost survivor from Bellingham who tells her story to share this part of her life with others. She is an amazing lady. You can read more here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/No%C3%A9mi_Ban

The second piece was Shostakovich's 5th symphony written during the time when he was under threat by Stalin. The orchestra did a magnificent job and the introduction by maestro Yaniv Attar really brought out the rebellion hidden beneath the apparent happiness in the work.

After the concert we met friends Susan and Alan for dinner. We had a lovely time. We were Arvin, Lynda, Steve and me.
