Karuhiruhi, the pied shag

Yesterday was a rather glorious day. Dave has been dying for a sea swim and it is so much cooler here than his native North Island that he does not get many!  We went off to Waikuku Beach.  It was really lovely there and everyone (including a few family dogs) was having a great time.

I was happy pottering with my camera.

In the evening we went to The Curator's House for dinner to celebrate our 11th wedding anniversary.  Wonderful atmosphere and food!

Of the world's 36 species of shag 12 are found in New Zealand and 8 of these are endemic.....
