My grandaughter posted this on Facebook.

Today it is 10 years since my beautiful mum took her own life. I miss her now just as much as ever and I wish more than anything that I could see her again but I am glad that she is at rest finally. I urge anyone who is suffering with mental health issues or knows someone who is, to seek support because it really is out there, now more than ever before. Mental health affects not just the person but their loved ones and the people around them and if we all help each other then we can try and fight. No one should suffer in silence. RIP Mum xxxxxxxxxxxxx I love you.

The message is important. Psychiatric disorders, addiction and alcoholism are all mental health issues that are poorly understood and neglected at an enormous cost to society. Unless people talk about these problems, they will remain behind closed doors and the sufferers will continue to be marginalised or ostracised and the families will continue to suffer in silence without support.
