The miracle of life
I know there are many other examples, but to me the growth from a dry bulb to a beautiful flower, many times the size of the original bulb, is always a miracle
The amaryllis seems to illustrate this best. This bulb flowered last year. Once its 24 inch stems of flowers had died back and it was just a straggle of long untidy leaves I put it in the garage and forgot about it.
In January, when we were putting our garden pots outside again, from the garage where they had been sheltering since October while our slabs were being laid, the amaryllis was put out too, by accident.
On Sunday I noticed it, it was looking miserable and the compost was soggy and frosty, however I brought it inside. Today is Thursday and look at what has happened, it looks like a leaf and two flower buds growing, life from an apparently dead bulb. A miracle...? Watch this space.
