Idaburn Dam, Central Otago
Well I ticked one off my bucket list I skated on natural ice & it was glorious. This is Idaburn Dam. A few days before I skated on it a Bonspiel was held. 32 curling teams from around New Zealand descended on little Oturehua after the call went out that the ice was ready.
The 14cm ice was beginning to melt when I went out but it was still superb, 2 hours on the ice & I still had to drag myself off. The texture & feel of it was so different from an artificial rink. Being out in the elements & fresh air made it perfect.
Another exciting thing is I'm getting my balance back & my edges when I skate are getting better all the time. Thanks Mr Orthopedic surgeon! K
