Pileated Woodpecker

Blipper WRPerry and I had an extended encounter with a pileated woodpecker at Catoctin Mountain National Park near Camp David today. We went there specifically to get waterfall shots at Cunningham Falls but this bird was better than anything I got at the falls. Access to the falls was somewhat limited which prevented getting any decent composition.  It was a very cold, but sunny day and we had a great outing, covering lots of distance and elevation.  Another shot of the woodpecker sitting in the middle of the log he had been pecking is in the extras.
