The Edge of the Wold

By gladders

Suddenly it seems dawn is much earlier, and the sunrise is climbing up the flanks of Ingleborough faster than I was expecting just a week ago.  Here we see the distant mountain under the ramifying canopy of Arnside Simon's favourite beech tree.  These morning silhouettes would be enhanced by the solitary figure of the Arnside Bigfoot, but somehow I only ever see him descending off the Knott.

The days have also become long enough for both a morning and an early evening Gus walk over the Knott in daylight.  Gus and I have now completed 56 ascents from the house so far this year, which is about 16800 feet in total.  The air is getting thinner each time we get to the top, but we are adjusting gradually to the altitude.

We shall be seeing the Old Flyer this weekend.  He is comfortable in his respite home, but very frail indeed.
