Last carbs (for now)
I've always struggled with my weight, always been a stone or so heavier than I wanted to be, sometime more. People always say to me that I'm not overweight and sometimes I believe them but then when I sit in the car and see my belly hanging over my waistband I realise I get away with it mostly because of my height.
A few years ago, after reading William Leith's excellent 'Confessions of a Food Addict', I realised that carbs were indeed my problem, or a significant part of it at least. Certainly exercising doesn't really affect my weight - not until I get up into the long distances, anyway - but I've long suspected drinking was part of the problem, too.
Well, after seven weeks without an alcoholic drink in which I've run 58 miles and swum eight more, I find I've lost two pounds at most. It seems cleat that the carbs are the criminals. Tomorrow I'm back on the low carb diet properly and so, somewhat predictably, I thought I'd have one last blowout. The red box is the Minx's cookie tin and that class has just been emptied of milk.
