Tall ships in Gloucester Docks

I drove Helena to a day-long course which was being held in Twigworth, a small village just to north of Gloucester.  I dropped her at 9am and decided to head into the city to do some shopping before returning to the same village to see an exhibition of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year which has come from the Natural History Museum in London. 

It was very cold and windy so I rushed to three shops and stocked up on groceries, alcohol and diesel!  I spotted some tall masts behind the warehouses surrounding Gloucester Docks and decided to stop to have a look.  The clouds became very dark and the rain started as I reached the dockside but I was delighted to see several three masted tall ships assembled beside the specialist boat repair yard, Nielsen and Co, which has a dry dock beside the Alexandra Warehouse.

The tall ships sometimes come to these docks as part of festivals of sailing boats, but these were obviously here for maintenance.  I took a few pictures in the prevailing wind, rain and snow which didn't let up. I have added a couple of closer views as 'Extra photos'.  I am going to check on the w[movements of the boats as it will be possible to follow their journeys back to the sea at the Severn Estuary, when they travel south along the Gloucester to Sharpness Canal.

I did go back to the Nature in Art museum and art gallery at Twigworth and viewed the photography exhibition which had some stunnig images, although I felt they were not as distinctive as last year's.  I also visited the two 'Artists in residence' at the museum and had really good long chats with both of them about their completely different techniques.
