Soap bubble scene
This afternoon, as I walked towards South Kensington tube station from the Nat. Hist., there was a street performer creating absolutely massive soap bubbles using a bowl of bubble mix, and two sticks connected by a loop of material. He'd dip the loop into the mix, then lift it and either let the breeze stretch out a bubble, or would swing the loop through the air to force air through it. He could make anything from roundish amoeboid bubbles to extremely long snaking ones. They were vividly coloured, and quite mesmeric.
One of the most interesting things was how various the reactions of the different passers-by was: some were amused, some irritated; some stopped, some continued; some tried to protect the bubbles, others deliberately burst them...
Children were typically quite excited...
I like this picture, because this child was totally hypnotised by the bubbles: this was the end of a particularly impressive, long and snaking bubble (looking quite like a dinosaur head, but perhaps I've just spent to long in NHM...) and he just couldn't hide his wonder.
The men in the background were amused but carried on walking; the man in the checked shirt was the boy's father (well, he was certainly accompanying the child); there was actually quite a crowd (mostly children holding up the rest of their family...) off camera.
It was a most enjoyable scene: I took a lot of photographs both of bubbles and people's responses. Fun times!
