Dia de Andalucia
A very cold windy day with some sun and cloud.
Today is Andalusia Day. Andalucia, on this day commemorates the February 28th 1980 referendum on the Satute of Autonomy of Andalusia, in which the Andalusian electorate voted for the statute that made Andalusia an autonomous community of Spain.
As it falls on a Sunday, there is a bridge day tomorrow where all shops etc are closed (except for the bars).
Al and I decided to celebrate ourselves with an Andalusian meal. Unfortunately we did not find anything that took our fancy for our main but managed to stay true with the starter and desert.
Salmorejo - similar to Gaspacho but thicker, it is a cold vegetable dip served as a starter. (extras)
Conejo Tarraconense - Rabbit, Tarragona Style
Rabbit on the bone with red wine, tomatoes and potatoes. Infused with bay, thyme, parlsey, rosemary, nutmeg, fennel seeds, garlic and safron. Also some chili and chocolate! Served with crusty bread. All the things required for a healthy heart! (main pic)
Brazo Gitano - Gypsy's Arm 'Cake Roll' - basically a lemon fatless sponge roll filled with vanilla custard (natillas)
Of course accompanies with wine.
Lovely - have not had desert yet.
