Dulwich College

This morning we went to the Modern Show in Dulwich College. This was a fair selling mid century furniture and artefacts. There were also a number of designers showcasing their products. Some very talented people including a traditional upholsterer from Poland who had restored some beautiful armchairs.

Dulwich College has an interesting history. Founded in 1619 by Edward Alleyn an Elizabethan actor, with the purpose of educating 12 poor scholars, it now has 1500 boys making it one of the largest independent schools in the UK.

The current buildings date from 1869 and have beautiful brickwork patterns and ornate sculpturing. My blip shows a very small section of the college.
