Luke Robertson
Luke Robertson, the first Scot and youngest Brit to complete a record-breaking solo expedition to the South Pole, visited the Marie Curie Hospice in Edinburgh to meet patients and share his experiences.
At the age of 23, Luke overcame surgery that fitted a pacemaker to treat a complete heart block. He also spent three weeks in Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital in 2014, when it was discovered he had an extremely large and rare enterogenous cyst on his brain.
These experiences and the passing of his uncle to cancer have fed his determination to give back to those who help others during their darkest hours. Luke says, “I have witnessed firsthand the amazing work carried out by Marie Curie nurses and I’m honoured to raise funds for this amazing charity.”
Luke’s exploits don’t end with his remarkable venture to the South Pole. He is now aiming to complete the 8 day Cape Wrath 400km Ultra Marathon in May 2016 with the aim of raising over £100,000 for Marie Curie. Donations can be made through the Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/duesouth2015
