Guess where we went today!
Drive south was fine although not quite what I expected. "Motorway" all the way, but hard shoulder full of two wheelers, including one ancient guru c/w dhoti, cycling. Multiple signs encourage rhs overtaking, to no avail. Quite disconcerting to be overtaken and undertaken simultaneously, by multiple vehicles. Same goes for meeting stationary service vehicles on the outside lane, with no advance warning, and/ or pedestrians crossing the carriageway.
Anyway, we reached Agra safely and checked in to our upgraded 5* hotel. Fantastic lobby and room, but shabby and a wee bit down at heel around the pool and back garden.
Taj Mahal, late Saturday afternoon not the best time to visit and as we are going back at sparrowfart tomorrow, we didn't bother fighting our way into the mausoleum itself. Our guide, referred to as "professor" by his compatriots, was extremely knowledgeable, and communicated well, but how much will be remembered by us is another story.
The building, if one can be so simplistic, is absolutely beautiful, and a true tribute to Mumtaz's reputed beauty in turn. Muslim architecture at it's zenith! ! !
