Overflowing

Today's Lent poem by Gerard Manley Hopkins, a Catholic priest, seems very relevant today, as he rants against God about the lack of fruitfulness in his life:

...birds build - but not I build; no, but strain,
Time's eunuch, and not breed one work that wakes.
Mine, O thou lord of life, send my roots rain.

There is more than one way of being fruitful - and we do pray that our roots will be watered here in the Alentejo  - but for today, we are filled with gratitude for our children and grandchild being here with us for the weekend, and for the son-in-law who stayed behind and is leading the group who prays for us tomorrow.

Our cup right now, overflows...
