Planting

Today we traveled to Lachatao, a village high in the Sierras, to make arrangements for an upcoming weekend excursion. It was a beautiful sunny day - even hot for 9000 ft! 
The cabins are perched on a hillside overlooking the town and surrounding mountains. This farmer was planting his crop, which is probably corn. The mountain villages have an abundance of water, which helps produce lush and healthy growth of all their plants.  The towns and the city of Oaxaca that are on a valley floor are not so lucky during the dry season from Nov. to April.
