Hot Day in the City

Because it was going to be another hot day, I was going to go out earlier this morning. I was held up with phone calls and my youngest son calling in to talk about what needs doing in Akaora as he is going over tomorrow.


My oldest son wanted me to choose a colour for the deck at Akaroa as he is going to go over the following weekend to do some painting. I thought when I was out I would take my first walk around the city for over two months seeing I had to go to the paint shop, which is in the city.

I took a slow walk around a few blocks in the CBD and manage OK. It was too hot to do much else. The buildings have grown since I last walked around. It starting to look like a city centre again.

You can see the Christchurch Wizard in New Regent Street Top Left. The barricades behide him are the result of February 14th earthquake. Parts of New Regent St have been fenced off because of concerns about the safety of five privately-owned buildings. The fencing has blocked access to the tram tracks, forcing the trams to stop using the street and causing some businesses to suffer a halving of trade. You can read more about it with this link.

The two Shots Bottom Middle and the one on the Bottom Right were taken in the new Margaret Mahy playground. The water splashers were very refreshing.

After my walk I went and looked at colours and wallpaper for Akaroa. When I got out the wind had begun to blow a gale. It was a blast of hot air. I wanted to take a couple more shots on the way home. When I got into the car a gust of wind blow the car door onto my leg with force. At first I thought it may have broken my leg... luckily all seems Ok. I have some deep bruising appearing now. And it is aching a lot. I was lucky not to do too much damage!
