Contrasts...

I like a contrast between building styles and you get a lot of that happening in Manchester. We don't have a city 'style', we have an eclectic mix of buildings. This picture shows a contrast between the modern and the more modern.

In the foreground we have Redfern House, an Art Deco block with curves that is part of the Co Op's campus. It used to be in a back street of NOMA but the creation of a new square, Sadler's Yard, has shown it off. It's in line for a restoration as part of this new business district. It was built in 1936,

Behind it looms the CIS Tower, where the Co Op's financial division is housed. It was built in 1962. The solar panels covering the service tower give it a modern look but it's 54 years old this year so it's no spring chicken only 26 years younger than Redfern House. Both buildings are listed as architecturally important.
