Such a Hot Day

Back Blip from Akaroa...

We woke to clear sky's so we decided to take a picnic lunch and have a trip around the bays of Banks Peninsula. It was just too hot to do do any gardening.

We stopped a few times for some shots of Akaroa before reaching the Summit road. The shot Top Left is looking down into Akaroa Harbour.

After taking many shots we moved on along the Summit Road. You can't really see all the interesting bays in one day, so choose two. There are so many wonderful Walking Tracks on Banks Peninsula.. oh to be fit to be able to do them.

The first bay we visited was Little Akaloa. You can see the view from near the Church in the Shot Top Right. The Agapanthus were looking stunning. The shot is looking North out towards the heads. St Luke's Church is a lovely little historic Church there, which you can read about and see photos of it in my link. I have a few relations buried in the church grounds.

When we went into the church and found it full of stunning flowers and lovely bows with shells attached. So thought there must be a wedding taking place there that day. As we were leaving I had to give way for a farm truck and Phillippa said one the young guy was dressed up for a wedding and there were beautiful arrangements of flower in the back.

The small photo under the bird was taken of Akaora Harbour before making our way down Pettigrew's road to Pigeon Bay. As well as the Shot just below it. My mother and father lived in Pigeon Bay until just before I was born. My father was born there.

The Shot of the People fishing is taken of the wharf at Pigeon Bay. They were catching a few fish. We had our picnic lunch near by before moving on to have a look in the Pigeon Bay Church, were my parents got married and I was christened.

After that we took a walk through the Hay Scenic Reserve in Pigeon Bay. We only spotted one Fantail that followed us for a while. It was so hard to get a good shot of him as he moved around so fast and it was rather dark with all the undergrowth. You can see him in my collage. The other Shot taken in the Reserve is the one on the Bottom Right.

The last shot taken before we made our way back to Akaroa is the Bottom Left. That was taken at the hilltop looking down towards Akaroa Harbour. Looks like they like to do burnouts there!

It had been a 30c day and we were really worn out after a day of adventure.
