Day One: Rain No More

After a pleasant and untaxing journey we finally arrived in Budapest and escaped the constant rain we have experienced over the past weeks/months at home. It had cooled down a bit by the time we arrived from 30 centrigrade in recent weeks down to a more tolerable 28 centrigrade AND NO RAIN!!

Nice apartment on the top floor of an old apartment building overlooking the Dohany Street synagogue (second largest in the world....surprisingly (?) the largest is in New York). After an early arrival and some provision shopping (Tesco express...seems they are everywhere) I had an hour wandering around with the camera before we all headed out to eat at the Kek Rozsa just around the corner which had menus in English (and a rather entertaining approach to English/Hungarian translation). Good cheap Hungarian food and beer (three courses for about £7) in large quantities enough to satisfy any appetite and great goulash soup. We then headed off for an evening stroll down to the Danube to admire the evening views and made a mental note to head back down one evening for the delicious looking ice creams and Chimney cake....perhaps when we have not stuffed ourselves on a three course Hungarian dinner first!

Looking forward to exploring more tomorrow and in particular the incredible variety of architecture here.
