Sydney Commute

Our trip today was to Hanoi, via Bangkok and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Great Uncle Tommy had a hand in the building of the bridge and crossing it seemed perfect to round of a wonderful visit.
Jocinta had appeared as promised at 5.30am and we made our goodbyes - Denise, wisely, not fully "up" and still in her pyjamas, Bob dressed though only appeared to have one sock on...
The route was quieter than it would get to be hour later, though still busy. The bridge was cluttered from the car deck and wider than expected. The anti suicide/terrorist guards on the walkways were a surprise too, but the iconic view over the Opera House and Harbour didn't disappoint.
Qantas were efficient and did their job in that slightly off beat Australian way that other airlines could do well to copy. I particularly enjoyed the ice cream as we crossed Northern Australia and the fresh apple was welcome as we flew over Indonesia 7hrs in to the flight. The slider and roller for breakfast were tasty and were the first time I have had a burger or a hot dog on a plane.
Our bags weren't checked all the way through to Hanoi so we had to collect them at Bangkok and go through immigration. More form filling but handled quickly and with a smile. American Border officials could learn a thing or two from them.
The last leg was handled well by Vietnam Airlines in an old but solid feeling Airbus A320, and we were soon in Hanoi with Chicken and fried rice inside us. Deciphering the hieroglyphics on our tour guide's welcome board caused a slight delay at arrivals but we were soon sitting in La Siesta, a charming and high class boutique hotel in the old part of the city, with a warm welcome towel and some hot sickly cinnamon flavoured green tea.
Welcome to Vietnam.
