this door used to be the old entrance i believe, to St Oswald's rch in our town. The church has a long history and during the Civil War acted as an observation point when the town was under siege. I was told that bullet holes are still visible....

Because of the consequent damage the medieval fabric has been largely restored.

Inside there is a 17th century memorial to Hugh Yale and his wife, whose family founded Yale Universaty in America..

the church's lych gate is believed to be the oldest in the country...
