Three

I am a very occasional bird photographer and I happened to see quite a large group of these birds down at the beach today.  In fact I see them regularly but I can't work out what they are.  I have consulted my book on birds of Britain, although admittedly it is not a comprehensive volume, and I am still none the wiser.  I made some spectacularly bad exposures, so this is possibly the best of the bunch.
