Painting the sky grey

This afternoon I was lucky enough to get a private tour of the wonderful Symbolist Landscape exhibition about to open at the National Gallery. (It helps to have a gallery technician in the family). As I came out into the daylight, I couldn't help noticing the layers and textures in the sky which could almost have been applied by brush.
